  1. History of MSC

Midwest Sports Challenge has been in existence since October 2000 in the Columbia and Central Missouri area. It started as a state wide athletic and recreational competition that was sponsored by Cornerstone Insurance Company and had ESPN Basketball guru Dick Vitale as its spokesperson.¬†After its inception President David “DJ” Johnson continued to develop and host athletic and educational events for the organization. For more than 15 years MSC has provided many programs for thousands of area youth.

MSC’s Mission

To promote academic and athletic excellence in our youth by providing positive youth activities and programs that promotes and builds youth self-esteem. To heighten the awareness that team and individual sports participation offer and acceptable alternative to substance abuse, violence and school failure. The goal of MSC is to provide our youth the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities in a fun, educational and safe environment. MSC extends beyond the traditional opportunity for our youth to further their educational and athletic aspirations by providing additional avenues to gain experience in the sporting fields by providing teaching, coaching, officiating, volunteering, collegiate scholarships and international opportunities and other administrative opportunities that teach the necessary skills and experiences to become leaders/professionals in their communities.

Midwest Sports Challenge offers youth groups and organizations the opportunity to learn, earn and hold special events. Additionally, MSC provides after school programs and recreational activities for its members. Programs range from recreational or competitive basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer leagues, to specific sports training, specialty skills camps and assistance with academic achievement, collegiate and professionally opportunities.
